Unmetered*

Fees and terms

Two numbers cover the whole marketplace: buyers pay a 5% service fee on top of a price, capped at $500, and creators pay a 10% commission on what they sell. Everything else below is how money is held and moved, written for each side.

Buying tools and hiring creators

For buyers

Buying a tool

The price on the listing is the creator's price. Unmetered adds a 5% service fee on top, capped at $500, and the total is shown before you pay. One payment, no subscription.

You get the full source under a single-organization license, an install guide and a Claude Code prompt, and every update the creator ships. The license covers your organization, its employees and the contractors working for it; it does not allow resale or redistribution.

Free tools cost nothing and carry no fee. You claim them with your email, under the same license.

Refunds

Source code cannot be returned, so purchases are final, with one exception: if a tool does not run as described on its listing, open a claim within 7 days of purchase and we make it right, usually with a fix from the creator and otherwise with a refund. A refund or a chargeback ends the license.

The checkout blocks buying a tool your organization already owns. If a duplicate purchase gets through, it is refunded without questions.

Hiring a creator

Posting a project is free and so is receiving proposals. Work is agreed as fixed-price milestones. You fund each milestone before it starts, with the same 5% service fee on top, and the money sits with Unmetered, not with the creator.

A milestone releases to the creator when you approve the delivery, or on its own 14 days after it is submitted if you do nothing. You can ask for changes before approving, cancel a milestone that has not been delivered (the creator has 7 days to agree or to dispute it), or open a dispute, which Unmetered decides from the scope, the thread and the delivery record, up to $5,000.

On a buyer's first contract each milestone is capped at $2,000 until one contract completes; bigger jobs split into more milestones. Contact details, booking links and payment stay on Unmetered until a contract is active.

Payments

Every payment runs through Stripe. Card details never reach Unmetered. Receipts and a full transaction history are in your account.

Selling tools and taking contract work

For creators

Selling a tool

A flat 10% commission on each sale, published here and shown in your studio before you list. The buyer's 5% service fee sits on top of your price, so your price is your price. There is no listing fee.

You keep the intellectual property. Buyers get a single-organization license to a copy, and you can sell the same tool any number of times. Every version is reviewed and run before it lists, and the exact bytes we approve are what buyers download.

Free tools carry no commission. The emails of people who claim them are shared with you, as the claim form tells them.

Getting paid

Payouts go to your bank through Stripe, which handles identity checks and tax forms. Each sale sits on a 7-day hold before it pays out; the hold covers the buyer's 7-day make-it-right window, so a refund in that window comes out of the held share rather than out of your pocket later.

Selling is by application. A paid listing cannot publish until payouts are connected; a free tool can.

Contract work

The same 10% commission applies to each milestone released to you, and the buyer pays the 5% fee on top. Proposals on posted projects are free to send.

Milestone money is funded by the buyer before the work starts and held by Unmetered. It releases when the buyer approves the delivery or 14 days after you submit it. If a buyer asks to cancel an undelivered milestone, you have 7 days to agree or to dispute it; a milestone you never deliver is refunded. Disputes are decided by Unmetered from the record on both sides.

Work product transfers to the buyer on payment; you keep your pre-existing tools and know-how. Contact details, booking links and payment stay on Unmetered until a contract is active, and the buyers you meet here stay on Unmetered for 24 months from first contact.

Standing

Listings and conversations are moderated. Taking a buyer or a payment off the platform earns a warning, then a hold on new offers, then removal, and a refund inside the make-it-right window or a lost dispute comes out of the held share.
